Tecn@ Research Group

The research group TECN@ belongs to the Department of Education of the University of Oviedo (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education). It brings together experts in Educational Technology, Language and Literature Teaching, and Natural and Social Science Teaching. The group carries out research works linked to the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the curriculum areas, to favour the teaching-learning process in all the educational stages. Tecn@a especially focuses on the innovations in Infant, Primary and Secondary teacher education, linked to the implementation of active methodologies and the use of digital resources: gamification, Project and Game Based Learning, serious games, augmented reality, video games, apps, digital storytelling, etc. Besides, it deals with topics such as media literacy, audiovisual narratives, social networks, mass media, animation films, education in rural environments, etc.

María del Rosario Neira Piñeiro

Μaría del Rosario Neira Piñeiro holds a PhD in Hispanic Philology from the University of Oviedo. She is currently Senior Lecturer in the area of Language and Literature Education at the University of Oviedo and a member of the Tecn@ Research Group.

Her research interests include children’s and young adult literature, literary education, the literary training of pre-service teachers, educational technology, technology applied to literary education, and audiovisual and film narrative.

She has participated in several research projects, including “ITINER-AR: Assessing Pre-Service Teachers’ Competences through Augmented Learning Pathways for the Development of Multiple Intelligences”; “App2five: Redesigning High-Quality Educational Apps for Early Childhood Education”; and “Rural Schools: A Basic Service for Social Justice and Territorial Equity in Low-Density Areas of Spain (2021–2024)”, among others.

María Esther del Moral Pérez

Ph. M. Esther del Moral Pérez. Full Professor. She belongs to the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at the University of Oviedo (Spain). She specializes in Educational Technology and has been awarded five six-year research periods (sexenios). She leads the TECN@ Research Group: Technology and Learning. She is the principal investigator of several competitive projects. Recent R&D projects: The rural school: a basic service for social justice and territorial equity in sparsely populated Spain [PID2020-115880RB-100]. Another R&D project is App2five: Redesigning educational apps for early childhood [PGC2018-096233-A-I00].

She is the author of over one hundred articles in high-impact journals, several published and co-edited books, and numerous book chapters with prestigious publishers. Recent edited book: Del Moral, M.E. & López-Bouzas, N. (2025). Narrative Universes in Digital Environments. Aula Magna-McGraw Hill.

She teaches Information and Communication Technologies applied to education (Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education), Communication, Child Development and Education (Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education), and Education in Rural Areas (Bachelor's Degree in Pedagogy). She holds a Master's degree in Research and Innovation in Early Childhood and Primary Education. She chaired the Social Sciences I Evaluation Committee of the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA). She has conducted research stays in Calgary (Canada), Poitiers (France), Freiburg (Germany), and ITD Genoa (Italy). She has taught courses at Ibero-American universities (Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Peru).

Begoña Camblor Pandiella

Begoña Camblor Pandiella holds a PhD in Hispanic Philology from the University of Oviedo and currently works as a tenured lecturer in the Department of Language and Literature Teaching at the University of Oviedo. Her research focuses on Republican exile poetry, literary education and ICT in the teaching of children’s and young adult literature. She has undertaken research stays at the City University of New York and the Complutense University of Madrid. She is currently participating in the project “Reading, literary and linguistic education and inclusion: research through multimodal children’s and young adult literature on diversity and sustainability” (ref. PID2022-139640NB-I00), at the University of Valencia.

Nerea López-Bouzas

Assistant Professor at the University of Oviedo, affiliated with the area of Didactics and School Organization (DOE). PhD in Education and Psychology with a University Teacher Training Fellowship (FPU), recipient of the Fundación ONCE Award, granted by the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain in 2025 for her doctoral thesis. Early Childhood Education Teacher with a Master’s Degree in Research and Innovation in Early Childhood and Primary Education. Member of the research group “TECN@: Technology and Learning” at the University of Oviedo. Included in the “Women Scientists and Innovators” platform of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). Her research focuses on the integration of technological resources in the teaching–learning process, including inclusive education, digital applications, augmented reality, gamification, audiovisual narratives, and serious games. She has carried out research stays at the Institute for Educational Technology (CNR-ITD) in Genoa (Italy), the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) at the University of Porto (Portugal), and the University of Valencia (Spain).

Jonathan Castañeda Fernández

Jonathan Castañeda Fernández is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Research Methods and Diagnosis in Education (MIDE) at the University of Oviedo. His academic career has been distinguished by outstanding excellence, having been awarded both the Extraordinary Prize in Pedagogy and the Spanish National Award for Academic Excellence in Higher Education. He holds a PhD in Pedagogy with International Mention from the University of Oviedo, a degree he completed after being awarded one of the highly competitive University Teacher Training (FPU) fellowships funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

As an active researcher, he is a member of the consolidated research group “TECN@: Technology and Learning.” His high-impact scientific output includes more than 30 articles published in indexed journals and 12 book chapters with prestigious academic publishers. This research record is complemented by a strong international profile, fostered through research stays at the University of Minho and the University of Lisbon (Portugal), the National Autonomous University of Honduras, and the University of Barcelona.

In recent years, he has focused his expertise in educational research and evaluation on studies primarily related to educational technology. His work encompasses topics such as the assessment of narrative competence in preschool children through the use of a mobile application, the analysis of university students’ perceptions of environmental education campaigns, the study of education in rural contexts, the impact and evaluation of fake news among university students, and the design and analysis of gamified narratives using Augmented Reality developed by pre-service teachers and implemented with preschool children.
